Install Python PIP on Windows easily and get all your Python packages properly managed. Preferred Installer Program (PIP) is a software management system used to manage packages written in Python. It is referred also as Pip Installs Packages because it does not only mange but as well does the installation of those Python packages. PIP does all this work from the command line.

Install Python PIP on Windows

Below is a step by step process to help you successfully install Python PIP package installer on your Windows system;

  •  Step 1. Download the file

Open the file and save it to your desired location on your computer, i.e downloads.

  • Step 2. Open Command Prompt, then Run as administrator

Just type CMD on your taskbar search box then right click to get the option of run as administrator and tap on it.

  • Step 3. Change Directory to the Location of file

For our case, the file was saved on the downloads section, hence to change directory to downloads, we do as follows;

C:\>cd users

C:\Users>cd valentine

C:\Users\Valentine>cd downloads

 Volume in drive C has no label.
 Volume Serial Number is 3459-ABFC

 Directory of C:\Users\Valentine\Downloads

  • Step 4. Install Python PIP on Windows

To install Python PIP on Windows, use the following command;

  Downloading pip-21.1.1-py3-none-any.whl (1.5 MB)

Collecting wheel
  Downloading wheel-0.36.2-py2.py3-none-any.whl (35 kB)
Installing collected packages: wheel, pip

  • Step 5. Consider Upgrading PIP to the latest Version

To upgrade PIP, use the following command;

python -m pip install --upgrade pip

The above command replaces the old version with the most recent one.

  • Step 6. Specify the version of PIP version you want, to downgrade it

Use the following command to downgrade while specifying the version you want i.e 20.2.3

python -m pip install pip==20.2.3
