Welcome to our guide on how to install Google Chrome on MX Linux 19. In our recent article we discussed about the installation of MX Linux on VirtualBox and VMware Virtualization platforms. MX Linux is a Debian based Linux distribution focused on user experience, speed and stability. Since Google Chrome is not pre-installed on MX Linux, we will take you through the steps of installing Google Chrome on MX Linux.
Google Chrome is web browser developed by Google. It can be installed on Microsoft Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and on Android devices. There are two common methods of installing Google Chrome on MX Linux.
- From MX Linux software installation center
- From Google Chrome upstream repositories
We will look at both methods of installing Google Chrome on MX Linux.
Method 1: Using Google Chrome on MX Linux from Software Center
Search for “MX Linux Package Installer” at the bottom MX Logo search box.
Input administrative password.
Search for “Google Chrome” package and tick the box then hit “Install” button.
Agree to any prompts that may appear during installation.
Wait for the installation process to complete and Google Chrome will be available for use in your MX Linux desktop environment.
Method 2: Using Google Chrome from APT repositories
Open a terminal launcher on your MX Linux and run the commands below to add required repositories.
sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/google-chrome.list<<EOF deb [arch=amd64] http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/ stable main EOF
Import GPG key for the repository with this command:
wget -q -O - https://dl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub | sudo apt-key add -
Once the key is imported refresh the system package cache
sudo apt update
And then install Google Chrome browser on MX Linux machine.
sudo apt install google-chrome-stable
Uninstalling Google Chrome on MX Linux
To remove Google Chrome on MX Linux from the command line use the command below.
sudo apt remove google-chrome-stable
